Next.js

React framework for apps with server-rendered routes.

What Next.js is

Next.js is a React framework with file-based routing, server components, server actions, and a per-route choice of static, server-rendered, or streamed output. It is maintained by Vercel but runs anywhere a Node process or container can, and on edge runtimes as well.

How we use it

It is our default for AI products with accounts and per-user state. Streaming a response from a route handler to the client is the pattern that makes a chat surface feel immediate rather than frozen, and server components keep API keys and retrieval logic on the server where they belong. Model calls live in route handlers or server actions, never in the browser bundle.

Where it is the wrong choice

The framework moves faster than most client teams want to track, and the server/client component boundary is a genuine source of bugs for people new to it. For a content site with no per-user state, Astro ships less JavaScript and less complexity.
