React

The component model the rest of the stack assumes.

Magic Ship is one shop in Vancouver, BC, working remotely with clients worldwide. We are not a partner, reseller, or certified vendor of Meta - we just build with this.

What React is

React is a JavaScript library for building interfaces out of components. It is maintained by Meta and in production is almost always used through a framework, with server components and Suspense moving part of rendering back to the server.

How we use it

Product surfaces are React, usually inside Next.js, with data fetching kept at the edges so components stay testable. For model output we render partial responses as they stream in rather than waiting for the whole answer, because perceived latency is most of what users are judging. Component choices are made so the client's team can keep building after we leave.

Where it is the wrong choice

It is a heavy default for a page that is mostly text. A marketing site or docs surface does not need a runtime shipped to the browser, and Astro produces a faster page with less to maintain.

Building something on React?

Send the problem rather than a job spec. You get an answer on scope, on fit, and on whetherReact is even the right call for it.
