Magic Ship is one shop in Vancouver, BC, working remotely with clients worldwide. We are not a partner, reseller, or certified vendor of shadcn/ui - we just build with this.
What shadcn/ui is
shadcn/ui is a collection of React components built on Radix primitives and Tailwind that you copy into your codebase instead of installing as a dependency. Once copied, the code is yours to edit, and a CLI adds further components on demand.
How we use it
It gets a product surface to a decent baseline quickly - accessible dialogs, menus, and forms from Radix - without committing a client to a library they cannot change. Because the components live in the repo we adapt them to the client's design tokens rather than fighting a theme API. Anything we rewrite heavily gets renamed so nobody mistakes it for upstream code.
Where it is the wrong choice
Copied code does not receive upstream fixes; you own the accessibility bugs and the updates from the day you paste it. A team that wants a maintained, versioned component library should install one instead.
