Slack API

Where an internal tool meets the people using it.

Magic Ship is one shop in Vancouver, BC, working remotely with clients worldwide. We are not a partner, reseller, or certified vendor of Slack - we just build with this.

What Slack API is

Slack's platform covers the Web API, the Events API, incoming webhooks, slash commands, Block Kit for interactive messages, and Socket Mode for apps that cannot expose a public URL. Apps are scoped by OAuth permissions and can post as a bot, open modals, and handle interactions.

How we use it

Slack is often the right interface for an internal agent: a slash command or a mention starts a run, Block Kit renders the result with approve and reject buttons, and the thread becomes the audit trail. Anything destructive goes through a button press rather than the model's judgement. Thread context is what makes a follow-up question work without restating the whole request.

Where it is the wrong choice

Block Kit is a constrained layout system - no arbitrary markup, message size limits, and interaction payloads that must be acknowledged within seconds - so a rich review interface belongs in a web app the message links to. Rate limits also make it a poor channel for bulk output.
