Automation and integration

Linear API

GraphQL API and webhooks for issue tracking.

Magic Ship is one shop in Vancouver, BC, working remotely with clients worldwide. We are not a partner, reseller, or certified vendor of Linear - we just build with this.

What Linear API is

Linear exposes issues, projects, cycles, and comments through a GraphQL API, with webhooks for changes and OAuth for anything a customer installs. There is a TypeScript SDK, and personal API keys cover internal automation.

How we use it

We wire delivery work into it: issues opened from an agent's triage pass, status transitions driven by CI, and a webhook that posts a run's result back onto the issue that asked for it. Writes go through one narrow service with its own token, so an automation cannot touch anything outside the team it was scoped to. The ticket stays the record; the automation only keeps it current.

Where it is the wrong choice

The API is Linear's own model, not a generic tracker abstraction, so an integration written against it does not port to Jira without a rewrite. When a client runs both, the integration belongs behind our own interface instead.
