What Notion API is
Notion's REST API exposes pages, databases, blocks, and users to an integration that has been granted access to specific pages. Content comes back as a tree of blocks rather than as whole documents. There are search endpoints and webhooks for changes.
How we use it
A lot of a client's real knowledge lives in Notion, so it is a common ingestion source: we walk the block tree, keep heading structure and page hierarchy as chunk metadata, and sync incrementally instead of re-indexing everything nightly. Page permissions are captured at ingestion time so the index cannot answer from a page the asker could not open. It is also a reasonable place to write agent output back to.
Where it is the wrong choice
The API is rate limited and paginated at the block level, so a first crawl of a large workspace is slow and has to be resumable. Its permission model does not map cleanly onto per-user filtering at query time either, which takes deliberate work to get right.
