Magic Ship is one shop in Vancouver, BC, working remotely with clients worldwide. We are not a partner, reseller, or certified vendor of Vercel - we just build with this.
What Vercel is
Vercel is a hosting platform for frontend frameworks, built by the maintainers of Next.js. It gives every pull request a preview URL, runs serverless and edge functions, and handles image optimisation, caching, and rollbacks.
How we use it
When a product is Next.js and the client has no hosting requirement of their own, Vercel removes a week of setup, and a preview deploy per pull request is what makes a review conversation concrete instead of theoretical. Environment variables are scoped per environment, and a bad release rolls back in one action. Long-running work moves to a container or a queue rather than being stretched across function timeouts.
Where it is the wrong choice
Function execution limits make it wrong for long agent runs and heavy batch jobs, and on high-bandwidth or high-invocation workloads the bill can exceed a plain container doing the same work. Clients who need the app inside their own cloud account cannot use it at all.
